‘Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain 1 Chron 4v10 |
There comes a time in your life when you just had enough. Jabez had enough. All he must have ever gone through was pain. It was important in the olden days to name your child accordingly. We still make a big fuss about naming our children. In some cultures they name their children after a road that they might have travelled past or person that played a significant role in their lives. Jabez’ mother named him pain because she bore him in pain.
As terrible as that sounds, she must have gone through a lot of pain and discomfort to have given him that name. He chose later in his life to renounce that meaning off his life. He wanted something better for himself. He wanted an identity that he felt suited him best and most of all he wanted to be a God-fearing, blessed and humble man. He prayed that God would make his tent large and give him a better life free from pain.
Just like you and me. We grow up a certain way in certain circumstances but later in life we all gain some independence. We are able to make our own choices and exercise our independence. If you hate your life, you are either going to do something about it or accept it or hate yourself and all around you. It is your choice. Jabez did something and I am still doing something, what is stopping you from doing something about your mundane, simple life? ‘For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ Jer 29v11
God has a plan for your life. Why don’t you ask him what it is so you can start working towards a better outlook and brighter future for yourself?
Prayer for the day:
Dear Lord, I am weak today. I have no self-esteem and I belittle myself every chance I get. Help me today to believe in myself and to strive for better things in life. I want a chance at a better life and a bright future that you have already planned for me. Lead me and guide me to reach my goals and desires you have placed in my heart. I love you, Lord. Amen
